Thesis on the Impact of Social Media
The innovation of technology and social media has impacted society in two profound ways, both negatively and positively. Despite being more connected to other humans worldwide, we have never been less human than we are now. In this digitally linked world, the constant stream of news on television and social media is eroding our humanity. As we scroll through images of protests, riots, violence, shootings, and hate crimes, we become increasingly desensitized. This overexposure to violent news can be traumatic, and it's crucial that we understand the reality without becoming numb to these situations.
Editorial Design
This project examines the desensitizing effect of social media on major tragedies, using a black-and-white book with impactful images and red text, alongside a social media video featuring footage and audio from the events. Market research analyzed the psychological impact of constant exposure to violent news, targeting socially conscious individuals and media studies enthusiasts. The design focused on somber imagery, monochrome themes, and bold red text to convey urgency and emotion.
The design emphasizes stark contrast, using black-and-white imagery to reflect the harsh reality of tragedies, while red text draws attention to key points. The book design features monochrome images with red text from news articles to highlight critical aspects, and a short video was created for social media, combining visuals and sound to convey the emotional weight of the events and the impact of overexposure.
