Palmas — Independent typography project: custom typeface, poster, coplas book.

Palmas are the hand-clapping rhythms that hold a flamenco performance together — built by hand, beat by beat, the same way a typeface is built letterform by letterform. This project reinterprets the Blackletter tradition through that lens, pairing the ornamental structure of a centuries-old letterform with the rhythm and immediacy of flamenco's visual language.

The typeface was designed as a capitals-only display face, in the tradition of illuminated versals — built for scale and presence rather than running text. Developed across a full specimen, a poster, and a lyric book, the system explores how a traditional form can evolve without losing what makes it recognizable.
